Exploring the Geology of Pioneer Valley

Exploring the Geology of Pioneer Valley

by Ivan Kirpichev

Fellow residents of Pioneer Valley, here in Massachusetts,

We live in one of the most amazing geological areas on Earth. According to Professor Richard Little, the Connecticut River Valley is the best place to study geology. And it truly is. Right here, we have evidence of mountain-building events, continental collisions, and continental spreading. We have many rock layers beneath us, dinosaur footprints, and major basaltic flows.

In the Connecticut River Valley, we also have evidence of the Ice Age, ancient lakes, and isostasy. If it can be found in a geology textbook, you can find it right outside our door.

From a creationist perspective, this area is perfect for observing the evidence and processes of Noah’s Flood. For years, I thought I’d have to go to the Grand Canyon to see such evidence, but here in Pioneer Valley, we can witness it all. We are currently working on writing a scientific paper about the geology of our hometown! We will cover each layer and explain what happened in a biblical science perspective. From basalt flows like the Holyoke Basalt—stretching from Seven Sister mountains to Sleeping Giant—to the dinosaur footprints that followed, this paper will lead the way in understanding local flood geology of the Pioneer Valley.

So, stay tuned to see our full research! And if you’d like to dive deeper, join us at Bible Adventure Land in Feeding Hills for presentations on these topics.

Thank you all, and I can’t wait to share more soon!
